This year Burford Quakers (Society of Friends) are celebrating the three hundredth anniversary of their Meeting House, a simple and beautiful building that has remained largely unchanged since the first stone was laid in 1709.

To mark the anniversary Burford Friends have organised a series of events and they would like to welcome members of the public to the following:

 
  April 1st - October 31st

AN EXHIBITION OF QUAKER MEMORABILIA

Tolsey Museum
Burford High Street
Open: Weekdays 2p.m. - 5p.m., Sat./Sun. 11a.m. - 5p.m.

  May 11th - 16th

QUAKER TAPESTRIES: a photographic display showing aspects of the work of Friends past and present.

  July 5th

MEETING HOUSE GARDEN OPEN


To mark the anniversary, the Meeting House garden has been completely redesigned and includes plants which have been introduced into the country by Quaker botanists
Open: for one afternoon only, 2p.m. - 6p.m.
Free Admission
(As part of the Burford Festival gardens will be open throughout the town).

 
  July 9th

QUAKER CLOCKMAKERS OF NORTH OXFORDSHIRE


An illustrated talk by Tim Marshall on the 18th century, with exhibits of their distinctive style throughout the period.
Burford Meeting House 7p.m.

  September 12th

RIDE AND STRIDE

An annual event organised by the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust. Striders and Riders are sponsored to see how many places of worship they can visit during the day.
Burford Meeting House open from 10a.m. to 6p.m.

 
  October 3rd - 11th NATIONAL QUAKER WEEK

An opportunity to take part in events at local Meeting Houses.

 
  December 13th

Burford Meeting LUNCH to mark the end of our year of celebration.
